Wednesday, 12 December 2018 - Castelló Ruta de Sabor

The Castellón Provincial Council has involved chef Martín Berasategui in the best promotion and enhancement of citrus fruits from the province of Castellón.

The Diputación de Castellón has involved the chef Martín Berasategui in the best promotion and enhancement of citrus fruits from the province of Castellón. Thus, the Provincial Government has created and disseminated a viral video with the aim of continuing to position the Castellón orange as the best in the world by the hand of one of the best international chefs. This important initiative is part of the various actions contemplated by the Diputación de Castellón to promote the consumption of citrus fruits of Castellón, especially during these dates and as part of its strategic program Castelló Ruta de Sabor to enhance the value of local cuisine.

The president of the Provincial Council, Javier Moliner, said that “we know that we have the best orange in the world, and it is a great pride that one of the best chefs in the world as is Martin Berasategui, great ambassador of the products of our land, joins as a great prescriber of our orange so that everyone knows of its quality. Together we are walking in the generation of new opportunities for a sector so important for our province and an activity of which we are deeply proud as is the citriculture”.

Moliner thanked Martín Berasategui for his involvement in the project and assured that “for the province and the producers of Castellón it is a real luxury to have Martín Berasategui among us helping us as an ambassador of a province that believes in its citrus fruits and that by working with none other than the Spanish chef with the most Michelin Stars we can meet the challenge of putting the Castellón orange in the place it deserves”.

In the audiovisual piece, less than a minute long, the chef from San Sebastian appears talking with his professional partner Fernando Navarro, from Nules. Both emphasize the great qualities of the Castellón orange, and the chef from San Sebastian even assures that “in Martín’s kitchen there is no other orange than the one from Castellón, and with this product it’s no wonder they love you so much”.

With this new initiative, the Provincial Government continues to work to publicize and value the products of Castellón as a source of new opportunities for the future of the province. A promotional work that intensifies during these dates in view of the upcoming Christmas campaign. It should be noted that after four years of experience, the brand of the Provincial Council Castelló Ruta de Sabor has managed to bring together more than 100 producers from 15 different food sectors, two designations of origin, a Protected Geographical Indication and 6 products with distinctive Natural Park. It is a brand present in stores, fairs, supermarkets and supermarkets in the province and part of the Spanish territory.

Support for an emblematic sector and the pride of Castellón

The Provincial Council will show its support for the citrus sector as an emblem and pride of the province of Castellón. Thus, the Provincial Government Team has registered a proposal for an Institutional Declaration on the problems of the citrus sector so that in the next plenary session on December 18, the Provincial Corporation expresses its support and defense of all measures to protect and support the Castellón citrus sector in the face of the problems that its interests are suffering.

It should be noted that the citrus season generates around 60,000 jobs in the province of Castellón, both in the field and in warehouses and marketing companies. In addition, citrus cultivation accounts for approximately 36,718 hectares of the total of 50,586 hectares of irrigated crops in the province.
