Diputación supports the development and competitiveness of the provincial citrus sector.

The Castellón Provincial Council will support the provincial citrus sector with an investment of 190,000 euros in 2019 with the aim of promoting its development and improving its competitiveness in an increasingly globalized world where there is great competition.

The Diputación de Castellón will support the provincial citrus sector with an investment of 190,000 euros in 2019 with the aim of promoting its development and improving its competitiveness in an increasingly globalized world and in which there is great competition. This has been announced by the provincial deputy of Rural Development, Pablo Roig, who confirms the commitment of the Provincial Government with the impulse to the sector hand in hand with groups such as Asociex, FEPAC-ASAJA and La Unió de Llauradors. “From the Provincial Government we are committed to the citrus sector as a fundamental part of our economy and our identity and of which we are very proud. We are aware of how much this activity has given to the province and we want it to continue to be an engine of opportunities and employment in Castellón. For this we dedicate all our available resources, and in that line we will continue working next year, to reinforce the pride and defense of the citrus sector of Castellón. We will always be on the side of such an important sector for the province”. The Provincial Council will show its support to the citrus sector as an emblem and pride of the province of Castellón. Thus, the Provincial Government Team has registered a proposal for an Institutional Declaration on the problems of the citrus sector so that in the next plenary session on December 18 the Provincial Corporation expresses its support and defense of all measures to protect and support the Castellón citrus sector in the face of the problems that are suffering their interests. It should be noted that the citrus season generates around 60,000 jobs in the province of Castellón, both in the field and in warehouses and marketing. In addition, citrus cultivation represents an approximate area of 36,718 hectares of the total of 50,586 hectares of irrigated crops in the province.

 

Support to boost exports

The Castellón Provincial Council will consolidate next year its collaboration with the Association of Fruit Exporters of the Province of Castellón (ASOCIEX) to promote the marketing of citrus products of the province both in the international market and internationally through a contribution of 30,000 euros.

Support for agricultural collectives

As part of its support to the citrus sector as an economic engine of the province, the Diputación de Castellón will revalidate next year its support to the most representative agricultural groups in the province, FEPAC-ASAJA Castellón and the Unió de Llauradors i Ramaders de Castellón with a contribution of 80,000 euros to each of these entities. Through this collaboration, the Provincial Council promotes training activities, new lines of work and other activities carried out by these groups in order to promote improvements among the agricultural profession of Castellón.

The great economic scope and rootedness of the citrus product in the activity of thousands of Castellón families makes it strategic for the Provincial Council, which reinforces with the promotion that work to raise awareness among the people of Castellón so that they choose citrus products from Castellón during the Christmas holidays. Thus, the Provincial Council has created and made viral a video with Martin Berasategui to enhance the promotion and enhancement of this important product for the economy and identity of the province. And it will continue to promote new initiatives as part of the Christmas campaign with which it will invite the people of Castellón to enjoy these special holidays with Castelló Ruta de Sabor products on their tables. In addition, the Provincial Government Team has registered to raise to the Plenary a proposal for an Institutional Declaration to defend and support the provincial citrus sector for its clear affection in the current campaign.
