The candidacy of the brand promoted by the Provincial Council was proposed by the ‘Confraria del arròs y la taronja’ of Castelló, integrated in the Host del Castell Vell.

The president of the Provincial Council, José Martí, and the provincial deputy of Tourism, Virginia Martí, will collect next July 24 in the Italian town of Verona the award ‘AURUM-Excellence-Enogastronomic 2021’ in the category European Gastronomic Route 2021, awarded by the European Council of Enogastronomic Guilds to Castelló Ruta de Sabor, the brand promoted by the Provincial Council and composed of a set of food and flavors of the highest quality produced and elaborated in this province. It is a distinction that is awarded at the proposal of the ‘Confraria de l’arròs y la taronja’ of the Host del Castell Vell de Castelló, and that is a recognition of the good work of more than 200 producers and tourism service companies in the province.

The president of the Provincial Council, José Martí, believes that the award of this prize is “a very interesting opportunity to promote internationally the excellent products that are produced in the province of Castellón”. He also pointed out that “we will take advantage of our stay in Verona to explain to those attending the congress the important tourism potential of our province, both in terms of the quality of its beaches and the beauty of its inland landscapes”. As he said, “the deputy of Tourism and this president will strive to explain that we have a magnificent province that offers endless sensations that are available to all people who decide to discover them”.

The presentation of this distinction is part of the program of events of the XVIII European Congress of Enogastronomic Guilds to be held in Verona on 23, 24 and 25 July, an annual event that brings together associations from eight countries and each edition is usually attended by around 650 people. In addition to the logical presentations of this type of event, there will also be excursions to places near Verona, gastronomic demonstrations of the participating countries and parades of the various confraternities, whose members appear in their own costumes and capes. The Verona congress was initially scheduled for 2020 but had to be postponed due to the outbreak of the covid pandemic.

One of the novelties this year is that the stand of the Comunitat Valenciana will host a tasting of products from Castelló Ruta de Sabor, which can be enjoyed by attendees from the eight countries participating in the event.

The possibility of promoting the products of Castelló Ruta de Sabor in Verona was already raised by the representatives of the ‘Confraria de l’arrós y la taronja’ in the interview held on November 27, 2020 at the Diputación de Castellón, when President Martí received in his office the Grand Master of the Host del Castell Vell, José Vicente Francisco; the vice president and secretary, Ángel Martínez, and the treasurer, Alberto Rustarazo.

The European Council of Confraternities is a non-profit organization that promotes and defends the agri-food products and quality gastronomy of the eight countries in which its 130 confraternities are located: Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Hungary, Greece, Belgium and the former Portuguese colony of Macao.
