The provincial institution will install charging points for electric bicycles, washing stations, basic tool kits and bicycle parking in almost a hundred municipalities in the province.
The Castellón Provincial Council and the Provincial Tourism Board are promoting the Castellón Cycling Product Club brand to promote sports and sustainable tourism that contributes to generate wealth in the province of Castellón and “show the world the great potential that this land has for specialization in cycling tourism as a tourist attraction worldwide”.
This was stated by the president of the Provincial Government, Marta Barrachina, who said that “Castellón, for its natural heritage, terrain, climate and facilities has in cycling tourism a horizon full of opportunities”.
Therefore, in order to reinforce its commitment to Castellón Cycling and enhance the value of natural and unique areas of the province linked to the promotion of cycling tourism as an economic, sustainable and tourist activity, the provincial institution will install charging points for electric bicycles, washing stations, basic tool kits and bicycle parking in municipalities of the province. An initiative that has attracted the attention of 98 municipalities.
“We want the towns of Castellón to become benchmarks for leisure cycling, tourism and sport, where the cyclists of our land, and those who visit us, can enjoy all the services and infrastructure necessary to pedal and enjoy an unbeatable environment,” said the president of the Provincial Council.
In this sense, Marta Barrachina has praised the positive impact of the presentation of this project in the province of Castellón by the municipalities. A total of 98 municipalities have requested the installation of this service that will allow cyclists to make small repairs and maintenance work on their bicycles, such as inflating the tires and changing them, tightening screws, adjusting the brakes or repairing a puncture, among other basic actions, such as cleaning or charging them, in the case of electric bicycles.
The head of the provincial institution has insisted that “this project will not only promote and enhance cycling tourism, but transcends far beyond to be an initiative that promotes knowledge and care of nature and sustainability, contributing to respect for the environment”.
In this regard, the deputy of Tourism has stated that “what is intended with this action is to promote the use of alternative means of locomotion and thereby reduce emissions of polluting gases and greenhouse gases, helping to advance the transformation of Castellón in a Smart and sustainable Destination”.
“The fact of having these facilities in the municipalities will make it easier for many people to use bicycles and we will be able to make cycling a more accessible activity and reduce gas emissions that are causing the climate emergency situation we are facing,” said Andres Martinez. Thus, the vice president went on to say that “a high quality bicycle tourism offer can attract more environmentally friendly tourists to cities, municipalities and rural destinations in the interior of our province”.
The characteristics of Castellón, due to its climate, natural and cultural resources, the number of marked and conditioned routes for the practice of cycling tourism make it one of the tourist products par excellence of the province. This is the clear and firm commitment of the Provincial Council to promote the Castellón Cycling Product Club brand and encourage the use of bicycles as an alternative to visit the province, to deseasonalize the tourist activity and increase the number of visitors through a high quality cycling tourism proposal.
