The president of the Diputación de Castellón, José Martí, values very positively the visit to Benicarló of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, which coincides with the celebration of the 30th edition of the Festa de la Carxofa. The provincial leader interprets the presence of the minister as a “clear support of the Government of Spain to agriculture and fishing in the Baix Maestrat, at a time that are again difficult for the increase in energy costs. The president values the closeness shown by Planas, who “wanted to listen to both the heads of the cooperative Benihort and the Denomination of Origin Benicarló Artichoke, as the leaders of the fishermen’s guild.
This was stated by Martí at the end of the minister’s institutional visit, which was also attended by the mayor of Benicarló and provincial deputy, Xaro Miralles, and the provincial deputy for Rural Development, Santi Pérez.
The president of the Provincial Council, who will also be present tonight at the Gala Dinner of the Artichoke Festival, has stressed that “although our institution has no powers in agriculture, we do everything in our power to support the sector”. In fact, every year we sign an agreement with the Designation of Origin, a support that in 2021 made possible the change of seedlings and the recovery of production, which had been seriously affected by the presence of the vericillium fungus”.
Martí also referred to the support provided by the Provincial Council to the fishermen’s guilds through an agreement that subsidizes the collection of plastics at sea.
As he pointed out, “the Provincial Council intends to be next to our people, our producers, our farmers and fishermen, who are key players, along with the thriving provincial catering sector in the Castelló Ruta de Sabor brand promoted by our institution”.
